The link above takes to the website of film maker Sergi Agusti. Someone on Twitter just posted a link to a news item about a football tournament in Uganda and asked if football can change lives. Watch the trailer above (sadly not possible to embed it, as it is is in the director’s website) for the film One goal, which quite possibly answers that question. The film describes the journey of a group of young amputees, victims of the civil war in Sierra Leona who start their own football team and decide to compete internationally. Sergi, the director (disclaimer: he is a friend of mine), chronicled their journey and set up a foundation so that they could gather international support to continue with their efforts. It’s a heartbreaking story that speaks of the best qualities we have, namely the capability to overcome the worst of adversities and pursue our goals, no matter how far fetched or difficult they might be.
