Malena Ernman La Voix Eurovision 2009 (LYRICS & HQ) Sweden (via hirsli16)
The 18 songs in the semi final just ended. Now people are supossed to vote for their favorite to see who’s going to make it to Saturday’s final. This woman, a classical opera singer (and with a very good reputation in her country’s classical music scene) has been my favorite. Her particular brand of Swedish pop mixed with operatic antics is very entertaining and the whole over the top performance with those dancers wearing flamboyant outfits and masks is probably going to draw a lot of votes.
The most bizarre thing happened to me last night: your name popped up in my dreams. And it was in connection with peyote… what kind of shaman are you assaulting my dreams? eh, eh?
Cyro Baptista - Immigrant Song
Imagine a Brazilian Carnaval atmosphere mixed with Zeppelin. Yeah, that’s this song.
I would add: on top of the above, throw in some Gypsy colors.
Pretty in Pink, Psychedelic Furs.
Yeah, dancing here to this party tune… ah, to be young like this again!
The link above takes to the website of film maker Sergi Agusti. Someone on Twitter just posted a link to a news item about a football tournament in Uganda and asked if football can change lives. Watch the trailer above (sadly not possible to embed it, as it is is in the director’s website) for the film One goal, which quite possibly answers that question. The film describes the journey of a group of young amputees, victims of the civil war in Sierra Leona who start their own football team and decide to compete internationally. Sergi, the director (disclaimer: he is a friend of mine), chronicled their journey and set up a foundation so that they could gather international support to continue with their efforts. It’s a heartbreaking story that speaks of the best qualities we have, namely the capability to overcome the worst of adversities and pursue our goals, no matter how far fetched or difficult they might be.
When realities disconnect, or perhaps some people inhabit parallel universes where these conflicting realities never have to meet? These two tweets appeared almost simultaneously in my TweetDeck. The BBC one is rather self explanatory. However, while the BBC was reporting on this embarrassing detention, The National, the UAE’s most important newspaper, was “browsing” this report on how tourists seem to love the monorail system.
